Father,

Time travel, spelljamming, Sigil, the Plane of Shadow, and now the Plane of Mirrors- well life here is anything but boring.  When I last wrote to you we had arrived at the Cloven Rock Valley.  We spent the last 3 rides here resting and rearming from our long and tiring journey through the Anauroch.  I myself spent a few days creating scrolls and copying new spells into my spellbook.  I also purchased some Zalantar Wood and artisan's tools and began crafting a new composite longbow with an especially heavy pull.  I foresee another 2 to 4 weeks until it is complete. It is my hope that it meets the approval of Solonor Tholandira.  When time permitted, Mina and I watched the movements of Tren Noemfor in preparation for our mission.  As you recall, Darvin gave us the mission to kill Tren Noemfor.

When we were ready, we left the fortress with our caravan to continue the journey across the Anauroch.  About two days after our departure, we used the cover of a major sandstorm to begin our mission to destroy Trent Noemfor.  Using a mirror he had purchased from Cloven Rock, Cedar cast a mirror walking spell he had acquired from one of our earlier adventures.  With the aid of Primula's gaseous form spell and a bag of holding we entered the mirror to transport directly to Tren's bedroom.  Little did we know that as we stepped through, exact but evil duplicates of ourselves (equipment, memories, skills and all) were created in this new "Plane of Mirrors" we had entered.  It was a fight to the death.  It was this battle, more than any, that I realized how far my skill as an archer has come along.  My evil twin nearly killed me, but I was able to drop him and the evil Shane, Cedar, and Primula.  My companions finished the rest and in each case, our evil duplicates become mirror-like and shattered.  I believe I have made my companions a little uneasy with the ease at which I dispatched of their evil twins.  Shane especially has been keeping a watchful eye on me since the incident.  I must say it has been a bit unnerving.

We had found the mirror leading to Tren's bedroom, but before stepping through Cedar had the idea of capturing Tren alive and bringing him to the Plane of Mirrors to create a new "good" Tren.  After stepping through, we found Tren and his dead concubine on the bed.  It appeared that she had attempted to assassinate him.  He had been disemboweled and his tendons under his arms and the back of his legs had been cut.  Fortunately, Oscar was able to stabilize him.  We found two bottles on his nightstand which he was reaching for.  One we believe was a healing potion and the other, which contained a black blob, was marked in Netherese, "Protector."  Cedar reasoned it was a Sharn.  We took the bottles and Tren back to the Plane of Mirrors.  Oops!!  Cedar's idea worked a little too well.  The good Tren did appear, but so did the Sharn's opposite…a Phaerimm!!.  I managed to race down the hall in time to dispatch the phaerimm and save the good Tren.  When he saw his evil self, he ran him through and watched as he turned mirror-like and shatter.

After a short discussion, we brought him back through the mirror into our tent.  Oscar's mount was waiting for us with a very odd message under his collar.  It was from our mentor, Peraus Wands.  He appeared before us a short time later, looking a lot younger, and explained that Tren would be brought back to the past to replace his evil self in Dagger Falls.  He said this was the same thing that was done with Golthammer.  I asked him if we would remember the way Dagger Falls used to be and he said he could make it so we could.  With that, he left and here we are waiting for a sand storm.  I need a rest.

Your Son,

Xan
