Background of Shane "Fist of Wu"
Highhill
My past? Who am I and where do I come from?
Hmm, I find our current adventures much more interesting, but I
suppose. It is good to remember where we come from since it is a
very important part of who we are. Though remember that this need
not be the case. Each one of us has the power to change his path
and become something better or far worse.
I bear the name given to me by loving parents,
Portia and Milo Highhill. And I grew up here in Daggerdale, in a
small Hin village south of Serpent's Bridge near the Tethyamar Trail.
My dad is one of the finest cobblers around and mother has kept
herself busy with us kids - my brother Alton, my other brother Cade,
and my little sister Cora. It's a peaceful village and, unfortunately,
didn't offer much help to the dale while Lord Morn was trying to
reclaim it. Father said there were just some things that didn't
involve the Hin and that we should just stay out of those things
and not bring trouble on ourselves.
While I love and respect my parents, I did not
agree with my father's isolationist attitudes and that has driven
something of a wedge between us. I'm not like my father or my brothers.
Alton is following in father's footsteps while Cade, well, Cade
is a bit of a rogue and will most likely get himself into trouble
some day. Perhaps I listened too closely to the stories mother told
of Hin warriors defending their homes, land, and loved ones; fighting
with bow, sword, fist and foot. Those stories rang true in my heart,
and have inspired me to seek the path of the true Hin warrior. Though
I miss all of my family dearly, especially mom and little Cora,
I knew that I had to find my own path. And I have.
When she knew that I had made up my mind, mother
helped me to pack up a few things for the journey and suggested
I go to Dagger Falls to begin my search. It was here that I found
both the temple of Lathander and Master Wu - or perhaps it would
be more correct to say that he found me. He has shown me much, and
I believe that his 'way' is very similar to that of warriors of
my people. The priests of Lathander have also inspired me, their
beliefs are very similar to my own and they coincide with much of
Master Wu's wisdom - though he seems reluctant to discuss these
similarities. And so, I continue to follow my heart, looking for
ways to nurture myself and others, and to inspire greatness in all.
I train under Master Wu's supervision, while testing the warrior
strength and spirit that he is helping me to forge by adventuring
with you, my friends.
